Culture Israeli culture reflects the diverse background of its people. The country's most successful writers draw their inspiration from Jewish tradition. Such writers have included the novelist Shmuel Yosef Agnon, co-winner of the 1966 Nobel Prize in literature, and the philosopher Martin Buber. The foremost orchestra of the nation, the Israel Philharmonic, attracts a number of world-famous conductors and soloists each year. A vigorous tradition of folk song, in which the influence of Oriental Jewish music is strongly felt, thrives in Israel, as does folk dance. The Israel National Theater, in Tel Aviv, is notable. Israel has more than 130 museums, two of the most prominent being the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Israel Museum, in Jerusalem, which houses a large collection of Jewish folk art, a collection of modern sculpture, and biblical and archaeological artifacts. The Shrine of the Book, a part of the Israel Museum, houses a notable collection of Dead Sea Scrolls. Of the more than 500 public libraries in the country, the most important is the Jewish National and University Library on the campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which contains approximately 4 million volumes.1 Religion The affairs of the three major religions, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity, are overseen by the ministry of religious affairs through councils established by the various religions. Jewish holy days and the weekly Sabbath are, by law, observed throughout the country, and only kosher food is served in the army, hospitals, and other official institutions. About 82 percent of Israel's Arabs are Muslim, and most of the rest are Christian. Languages Hebrew and Arabic are the country's official languages. The most widely spoken language is Hebrew, but Arabic is used frequently in schools, legal affairs, and the legislature. Many Israeli residents speak English, Yiddish, Russian, or any of a number of other European languages. Education Israel's educational tradition reaches back to biblical times, although the country did not become a modern independent state until 1948. During the ancient period, schools of all levels were in existence, and through the centuries elementary and secondary education and, to a large extent, higher learning continued under various ruling factions. The Compulsory Education Law of 1949, as amended, provides for free and compulsory elementary education for all children between 5 and 16 years of age. Reform continued with the State Education Law of 1953, which established a national system of public secondary schools. MARIA PAZ CASTRO Degree: BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN HOTEL AND RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT Date Completed: OCTOBER 2011 The researchers conducted this study to determine the Effectiveness of Handling Guest Complaints by Front Office Desk Staff as Observed by the Guest at Selected Hotels. Specifically aims to answer the following questions about the profile of the respondents, how satisfied the respondents regarding their service satisfaction, recommendations that can provide solutions to the said problems and there is no significant relationship between the satisfaction of the respondents and their demographic profile of the respondents. A descriptive method of research was used together with the questionnaire as the main instrument in gathering the needed data and information. Fifty (50) Guest at Nice Hotel in Cubao Quezon City was considered for the study. In analyzing and interpreting the data gathered, the statistical treatments used were, the percentage which was used to compare the frequencies of responses to the total number of responses, and the weighted mean which was used in measuring the Effectiveness of Handling Guest Complaints by Front Office Desk Staff as Observed by the Guest at Selected Hotels. The chi-square test is used to determine whether there is no significant relationship between the expected frequencies and the observed frequencies in one or more categories. With all the gathered information, the researchers arrived at the following conclusion: (1) most of the guests are 30-39 years old, male, guests (2) most of them are satisfied regarding the effectiveness of handling guest complaints by front office desk staff at Nice Hotel in Cubao Quezon City. (3) It was recommended that the front office desk staff of the hotel should initiate talk with the guest to get feedback about their service to improve their service. 4) In terms of age and gender there is no significant relationship between the effectiveness in handling guestââ¬â¢s complaints by the front office desk staff in selected hotels and their demographic profile. I have always been interested in the way light travels, not just in how, but also in all the other factors that affect the light rays, including the speed, the velocity, the distance, as well as others. In my past years of school, I had been able to explore areas of physics concerning light rays, as part of my physics course. However, I had previously only learned the basic principles, such as the laws of refraction and reflection. Because I chose to focus on Chemistry and Biology, I was not given the opportunity to delve deeper into the subject, and had only obtained basic understanding of it. Fermat s principle states that of all the possible paths the light might take, that satisfy those boundary cond itions, light takes the path which requires the shortest time. (A more accurate statement of Fermatââ¬â¢s principle: Any hypothetical small change in the actual path of a light ray would only result in a second order change in the optical path length.
